Property Risk Control

CNA Europe’s Property Risk Control team works closely with our customers to eliminate or reduce the frequency and severity of losses occurring to their property. Common hazards are well understood, but our clients’ particular exposures arising from specific occupancies are identified by the extensive field work of our Risk Control team.

For example we have inspected many large teaching laboratories at universities and understand the best practice involved in the control of students experiments. We see the very specialist nature of risks created in research laboratories, e.g. modelling atmospheres of other planets in pressure vessels, and understand how to assess the adequacy of the insured’s own risk assessments and method statements to ensure that staff are safe and property protected. We have surveyed many football stadiums with new stands or those dating back to the 1920s. From this we understand the fire inception sources of fast food outlets within and the unusual fire propagation risks due to construction methods and contents.

Our experience in surveying buildings of differing construction types, both modern and traditional, gives us the knowledge to help build safety into new projects. We work with approved installers of fire detection and protection systems and know how to assess their adequate installation, maintenance and test. When our policyholders make new investments, we help produce protection plans, reviewing proposed projects to maximise safety and protection from the outset.

CNA Risk Control audits the insured’s risk management controls to ensure that measures required for the safety of employees and protection of property are happening in practice. We also review controls and assist in implementing improvements as necessary.

Our analysis of business interruption exposure includes identifying potential restrictions in production, critical equipment that may take many months to replace and interdependencies among the policyholder’s business, its suppliers and customers. We provide formal advice on disaster recovery and business continuity planning.

Often CNA Europe’s policy cover includes both Property and Casualty. We have therefore cross trained our Risk Control team members with a minimum of NEBOSH certification for Employers’ and Public Liability assessment on site, saving time as survey assessments are combined.
